CNN —Red Bull’s pioneering engineer and Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey is set to leave the outfit in the first quarter of 2025, the team announced in a statement on Wednesday. Prior to Red Bull, the 65-year-old enjoyed successful spells at Williams and McLaren. “For almost two decades, it has been my great honour to have played a key role in Red Bull Racing’s progress from upstart newcomer to multiple title-winning team,” Newey said in the statement released by Red Bull. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing as announced by the Formula One team’s parent company, Red Bull GMBH. According to multiple reports in March, Red Bull suspended the female employee who had leveled the accusations against Horner.

The team leader has remained defiant in his denial of claims of misconduct made to parent company Red Bull, which two weeks ago announced it had launched an independent investigation into the claims. For Mercedes, it is a devastating loss, unable to retain a generational talent and the face of its entire motorsport brand. He has been so successful with Mercedes that it’s almost hard to imagine the 39-year-old Briton racing for any other team. Hamilton holds the all-time record for F1 wins (103), achieving 82 of those with Mercedes and 21 with McLaren. It also reunites him with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur, who Hamilton raced for at junior level. Last season, a Mercedes driver failed to win a race across a whole season for the first time since 2011.

Solving the Puzzle of Gift Giving
  + stars: | 2023-11-27 | by ( Tim Donnelly | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
In 2021, I made my first word puzzle as a gift for my girlfriend for the same reasons many people did things during the pandemic: a lack of cash and an abundance of free time. We quickly ran out of games during long locked-in weekends, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I created puzzles based on our inside jokes and shared language, including one that required unwinding words themed around a “twisted” summer tea we enjoy. I still buy presents, even though I have this newfound crossword-making superpower, but there are some occasions when a puzzle is more than enough. When he kept procrastinating, she decided to try it herself and surprise him with a gift.

CNN —And so the curtain falls on a Formula One season dominated by Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team, with the Dutchman securing a record-extending 19th victory of the year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Never before has the sport seen a driver win with such regularity and ease, the three-time world champion again comfortably crossing the finishing line first at the season-ending race at the Yas Marina Circuit. Verstappen led from start to finish to secure his fourth win on the trot in Abu Dhabi. “It was an incredible season,” Verstappen told reporters. At one point, it seemed probable rather than possible that the team would win every race of the season, an outcome that faded away when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz won the Singapore Grand Prix.

Horner told the Daily Mail newspaper there had been "several conversations over the years" about Hamilton joining the team who are currently dominant with triple world champion Max Verstappen. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest," said the team boss. "SERIOUS TALKS"Horner told the Daily Mail that Hamilton, who has not won a race since 2021, also had talks with Ferrari chairman John Elkann earlier in the year. There were definitely conversations, perhaps with (Ferrari team boss Fred) Vasseur, too. Hamilton, who has said he sees himself at Mercedes "until my last days", denied the Ferrari speculation at the time.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said that Israel constructed bunkers beneath the Al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip decades prior, when his country occupied the enclave. He added, "I don't know to say to what extent it is a major [Hamas commander center]. It's probably not the only kind of command post, there are others under other hospitals or in other sensitive places. Israeli military has cited a potential Hamas command post sitting beneath or within Al-Shifa as its reason for raiding the medical facility and has met international pressure to prove its assumption. The Israel Defense Forces have released footage showing alleged tunnels on the premises of Al-Shifa, citing them as discoveries that proved the presence of Hamas at the hospital.

Russell was handed a five-second penalty for a lap 25 clash with Red Bull's triple world champion and eventual winner Max Verstappen that demoted the Briton from fourth at the finish to eighth. Ferrari ended up scoring 16 points more than Mercedes and closed the gap to four with just one race remaining in Abu Dhabi next weekend. "Just another massively missed opportunity this weekend," Russell told Sky Sports television. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said it was game over once Russell incurred the penalty but remained optimistic for the finale.

Red Bull Racing's dominance in Formula 1 this year is translating directly to higher sales of its namesake energy drink, the team's principal and CEO, Christian Horner, told CNBC. The Red Bull team, which also counts tech giant Oracle as a title sponsor, has trounced the grid this season, winning 19 of the 20 Grand Prix weekends so far. The Red Bull team secured the constructors championship the weekend prior, in Japan. Red Bull declined to share specific sales metrics, but a company spokesperson reiterated the F1 "uplift" and said it's particularly noticeable in corresponding race markets. It's incredible the amount of consumption of Red Bull that is happening," Horner told CNBC.

Formula One - F1 - Chinese Grand Prix - Shanghai, China - 6/4/17 - Formula One Managing Director of Motorsports Ross Brawn walks at the Shanghai International Circuit ahead of the Chinese F1 Grand Prix. The story has now been re-told in a four-part series 'Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story' on Disney+, with Hollywood A-lister Keanu Reeves the host and narrator. They had no engine to power the car until Mercedes, with the help of then-McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh, came to the rescue. "We had that wonderful period at the beginning (of 2009) when everyone assumed it was a slam dunk, you know? LAS VEGAS (AP) — General Motors said Tuesday it has registered with Formula One's governing body to become an engine supplier starting in 2028 in what is seen as a huge boost to Michael Andretti's bid to join the global motorsports series. “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” GM President Mark Reuss said. GM in January announced its partnership with Andretti Global under its Cadillac banner on Andretti's application to join F1. GM doesn't have its own F1 power unit and said its effort would be in conjunction with an existing manufacturer. If Andretti gets approved to join an expanded F1 grid, he would have to use another manufacturer's engine until 2028.

Technical head Elliott leaves Mercedes F1 team

LONDON, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Former Formula One world champions Mercedes announced the surprise departure of chief technical officer (CTO) Mike Elliott on Tuesday only months after he took on the role in a job swap with James Allison. Elliott had been appointed technical director in July 2021, with Allison moving to the CTO role, but they switched positions last April after Mercedes made a slow start to the season following a difficult 2022. Red Bull have won the last three drivers' titles with Max Verstappen as well as the 2022 and 2023 constructors' championships. Mercedes said Elliott, who had been with the team for 11 years and through their record eight successive constructors' titles, had chosen to depart after developing a technical strategy for the future. "Mike is a fiercely intelligent technical brain and a great team-player; he has made a strong contribution not just to winning racing cars but also to building the culture of our team.
